Where has Nurturing Goodness Got Us?

We first produced basmati for a tiny village in Punjab. Now our foods are enjoyed in over 80 countries.

How We Started

LT Foods’ story is one of vision, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to quality, consumer-centricity, and evolving with time. Today, we are a $1 billion global FMCG company in the consumer food space, but our roots trace back to a small grocery trading business in the 1940s, founded by brothers Shri Lal Chand Arora and Shri Tirathram Arora.

It was in this environment that young Shri Raghunath Arora, the eldest son of Shri Lal Chand Arora, learned the fundamentals of sourcing, stocking, and trading high-quality produce. The family primarily dealt in red chillies, pulses, oilseeds, and cotton seeds, building a vast network of farmers and traders across villages. However, Shri Raghunath had a vision that extended beyond traditional trading: he wanted to create a fair, transparent, and sustainable business model that would empower farmers and deliver quality produce to consumers.

By 1950, he identified the potential of paddy and recognized that the people of Khalra (Bhikiwind, Amritsar) would appreciate homegrown basmati rice. He revolutionized procurement practices by introducing a system of fairness and transparency, moving away from the ad hoc methods of the time.

In 1977, Shri Raghunath Arora took a significant step by establishing the family’s first rice mill in Bhikiwind. His values and passion for quality were inherited by his sons, Vijay, Ashok, Surinder and Ashwani, who carried forward the family legacy with the same dedication.

With time, the business continued to evolve, and under the leadership of the next generation, LT Foods expanded beyond India’s borders. Driven by unwavering confidence, Shri Vijay Arora’s ambition has always been to establish a sustainable business that consistently delivers a superior consumer experience. This steadfast vision culminated in the inception of our very own brands, leading to the launch of the brand DAAWAT® in the 1980s, which has today emerged as one of the most loved food brands in India and globally.
